The Ugandan Effort
Ms Martin’s 3rd grade class for the 2008-2009 school year have taken it upon themselves to volunteer their time, energy, and teacher to Libraries of Love.
The purpose of Libraries of Love is to partner with Africans to create libraries in individual schools. Through reading, students will develop a love of literature, as well as strengthen their knowledge in each curriculum subject area. Lifelong readers become lifelong learners. Therefore, the libraries will serve as bridges to a better future for the children of Uganda.
Following are the schools that will receive libraries next summer.
- Wambwa Primary School – 1,130 students
- Namakwekwe Primary – 1,590 students
- Mbale High School – 1,200 students
- Martin Nkoyoyo Integrated School – 77 sighted students / 50 blind
- Upland High School – 500 students
- Namirembe Primary School – restock / 1,000 books
